Reflection (Session 2)
Read through Mathematics LE(Castillo,2005) twice and I find this article has a detailed write-up on the modified research instruments; WIHIC and TOMRA. Using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, a pilot-testing involving 20 students were conducted to check the construct validity of the WIHIC and the attitude questionnaires. My understanding is, these 20 students were included in the actual sample of 510. A question came to my mind: Should these 20 students be excluded from the actual study? I better check with my group members to see how they have intepreted it as our group is working on this article.

Reflection (Session 4)
Reflection (Session 4)
Various instruments to assess LE and the use of validated instruments as in surveys and questionaires have been introduced and elaborated by Dr Quek in this session.
The number of items in each scale can be different as items can be omitted when they are irrelevant to the study.
Dr Quek has provided a good list of Don'ts using Yip Meng Fai's article. I have a better understanding in the intepretation of statistic data as Dr Quek went through the confident level and the plotting of graph using this article.
The table that shows the overview of scales contained in nine classroom environment instruments is a good guide to how and what instrument to be used be assess LE. It is a good guide as when a combination of instruments is required.
Modifying instruments for own use is well explained and illustrated by Dr Quek in this session.

Reflection (Session 1)
Reflection (Session 1)
After listening to the Podcast, I have a better idea of what is LE. It is interesting to learn how LE affects human development and create conducive and inclusive classroom environment for teaching.
Teachers have to consider the psycho-social aspect of the environment in order to create an effective LE, bearing in mind how LE can affect a person's development, personal needs and behaviour.
Personally, I find podcast a useful tool to engage students. I have listened to it twice and paused a few times in between to "absorb", understand and reflect. After answering the two questions posted at the end of the session, I thought through and reflected on my past few years of teaching. I find what make an effective learning environment differs with individual differences.

Reflection (Session 3)
Another hands on session. Blog and wetpaint seems to be more user-friendly to me now.
Having a clearer picture of LE now after Dr Quek went through the Big Picture of LE. I find this Big Picture of LE very helpful as it summarizes the relationship of LE and the Person, Personalities and Human Behaviour.
Understood that Beta press is more commonly used than Alpha press when cost is the main concern. Personally, I prefer Alpha press for I find that it is not bias.

Blog, wiki and facebook are new to me.Interesting to learn how all these could be link to email account. These new applications will definitely enhance my interaction with both my students and parents, to create an effective LE.
